Justin has had the backpacking itch for a while now, so we decided to make it happen this weekend. We originally wanted to hike in and set up camp for the evening, but all the primitive campsites were booked out for weeks. So, we spent all day hiking, playing in the water, and also made and ate lunch. We ended up hiking 5.15 miles with the kids in tow and I am so proud at the the lack of whining and complaining. They are such outdoorsy people…they don’t get that from me 😂
All the wildflowers are blooming in Texas, so I get lots of flowers ❤
Proud he made it up those rocks!
I am a little envious of her when we go hiking!
These rocks were pretty slippery and so they decided to go down on their bottoms
I was a little nervous trying to walk across these rocks after we saw one lady slip and fall in. We all made it with help from Justin and saw our first set of dinosaur footprints.
Waiting for the dirt to settle so he could see the prints. You can barely see it in the bottom, left corner.
We found a nice, shady spot for lunch and the big kids played in the water while Justin made some Couscous and Salmon for lunch.
We head off again to find more prints.
We only got “lost” three times, but the trails weren’t very well marked in some parts. We ended up running back into another trail eventually. This was our first detour…we went up the side of the hill, and then on this super narrow path. Justin had to do a lot of ducking and bending with Julianna on his back.
We made it to the top and had an awesome view of the river.
It was pretty neat to see where we parked and how far we walked. That parking lot down there was right by where we stopped for lunch and our car was in a lot way back further than that one.
This girl passed out on our walk up. I love that she can still fall asleep in this thing!
Learning how to read a map and use a compass.
Time for a snack break and for Julianna to stretch her legs!
This image made me giggle. How I feel about hiking sometimes 😂
Let’s do this!
We made it to the end!
We got home and everyone crashed and slept in this morning! Yay! I think everyone had lots of fun on this hike.
