Our makeshift school area…

This whole week has been rainy so we have been inside a lot and very bored!  Today I took the kids to Wichita to grab a few things and we also went to the Mall to play at the play area. When we got home, Jackson napped and I set up and refreshed our learning area in the kitchen. I taped all our weather, days, seasons charts, and sight words to the wall…mainly so I remember to do them everyday!  I am excited to have a better area in the basement, but for now this will have to do.

I printed these charts below from Confessions of a Homeschooler and the sight words are from a pack I got at Office Max today. I choose to put up three for now to start. She can already tell me two of them Smile  We will see if she can still remember them tomorrow.

I also finally refreshed our learning trays from Valentines Day.  I really would like to do this every week, because Jocelyn gets bored when I don’t.  I taught at a Montessori preschool for a little while before I had Jocelyn and they have these trays for kids to work on their fine motor skills. I try to make these all go with a theme for the week, but I just kind of threw this one together. This week I have tweezing, scooping, cutting, writing, and puzzles. All the trays are from the Target dollar bin. Here the trays we are doing for the next week or so…

Tweezing: Carrot picking {carrot erasers from Target dollar bins, Orange tweezers from Amazon, and the paint trays are from Oriental Trading Company}.

Scooping: Jingle Bells scooping {jingle bells from Wal-Mart, bowls from Target, and small spoon}. Jackson always really enjoys the scooping tray!

Cutting: Paper and little scissors {I draw lines for her to try to cut on}.

Writing: I got these cute little writing boards from Office Max today for .99 each. You can used crayon or dry erase marker. I also put a wash cloth in there so she could wipe off her boards.

Along with this we are going to start working on a letter a week again. We are doing J this week. We also have a bible verse that goes along with the the theme. We like to use this website for all the printables: http://www.1plus1plus1equals1.com/RaisingRockStarsPreschool.html

I wanted to write this all down for my own reference, so I can look back to see what I have done and also just have quick ideas Smile Let me know if you have any awesome tray ideas!

You are one AWESOME momma! Jocelyn will be so ready for Kindergarten! I have something you can add to your word wall/calendar wall. It’s a sound and letter chart. I also have a blends chart that I will send your way. I LOVE the tray idea! Love, love, love it!
